The Prairie Water
Directive is a statement of expectations for Canada's Prairie watersheds. In
the best traditions of democracy, residents call on governments to address
concerns that are critical to society's health and well being. Our concern is
with fresh water. More specifically, we are concerned with ensuring human use
and management of freshwater protects the water, in quality and in quantity,
for future generations.
Two years in the making, the Prairie Water Directive represents the best collective thinking of prairie water experts, grassroots residents, and prairie-based organizations on policy directions for maintaining water security across the Prairie Provinces.
It is our intent, through promotion of the Prairie Water Directive, to establish a clear and concise direction on how residents expect governments to manage and protect water sources. Broad and diverse sign-on by organizations and individuals are sought to give the statement political force.
